Wayne County Hospital Mourns
Loss Of CEO John Osborne.
Monticello – On behalf of the Board of Directors of Wayne County Hospital, Board Chairman Larry Bates today announced with sadness the passing of John Osborne, Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Osborne passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2011 after having been recently diagnosed with a terminal illness.
“Our leadership and staff are overwhelmed with sadness due to this sudden loss.” Bates said “Our first concerns and thoughts are with his wife Sandy of 38 years, and their daughter Kara. They were truly the center of his life and our prayers are with them in this difficult time.”
Hospital representatives said that peace was found in the “certain knowledge of John’s faith.” “He was an inspiring leader who had a strong and sure faith,” Bates noted. “He was a friend to many individuals at Wayne County Hospital as well as a mentor to many others. His passing is not only untimely, but leaves a void in our hearts.”
The 59-year-old Osborne joined Wayne County Hospital in December, 2007 as Chief Executive Officer. During his tenure, the hospital experienced unprecedented growth, enhanced revenues and financial stability. Dr. Cory Ryan, Chief Medical Officer, said “Wayne County Hospital has, in the past four years, been able to expand services to our community and region while improving diagnostic technologies and the overall operations of our facility.”
“This progress is directly attributable to John,” Ryan continued. “He was an exceptional CEO and a friend to the physicians and staff of this institution.”
Prior to joining WCH, Osborne served as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Marymount Medical Center in London, Kentucky. Under his leadership, Our Lady of the Way Hospital in Martin, Kentucky was recognized as a “Top 100 Hospital” in the Nation. Osborne held several positions with Baptist Healthcare System and spent 10 years with Laurel Heights Long-Term Care Facility, London. His career spanned 35 years in both non-profit and proprietary healthcare environments.
Mr. Osborne was also active in a host of civic and professional organizations. He was a Catherine Spalding Award nominee based on the values he instilled and the leadership he provided at Our Lady of the Way Hospital. The award, sponsored by Sisters of Charity of Nazareth Healthcare Systems, reflected his professionalism and dedication to integrity. A member of First Baptist Church, London, Osborne has been active as a member of Gideons, Kiwanis and the Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, he has been affiliated with the Rotary Club, United Way, and numerous healthcare organizations.
“Our community, our state and our hospital have lost a good friend and an outstanding leader,” Bates said. “We will move forward knowing that the quality of healthcare we provide each of our patients will be a reflection of the commitment John Osborne made to excellence. His legacy will be certain and lasting.”
